PRODUCT DETAILS

In large animal anesthesia, standard laryngoscope blades simply lack the reach required to visualize the larynx of a foal, calf, or adult equine. Our Specialty Extra-Long Laryngoscopes are purpose-built to overcome these anatomical challenges. Featuring reinforced Miller (straight) blades and high-output light systems, these tools provide the clarity and leverage needed for successful endotracheal intubation in the field or the surgical suite.

Unlike small animal equipment, our large animal series is designed to handle the increased physical force required during deep airway visualization without bending or flickering, ensuring patient safety in the most demanding environments.

Application Scope & Animal Suitability

  • Equine Medicine: Essential for neonatal foal intensive care and adult equine surgeries where nasotracheal or orotracheal intubation is required.

  • Bovine & Livestock Surgery: Used for calves and adult cattle, particularly in university research settings or high-end breeding facilities.

  • Zoo & Wildlife Conservation: Suitable for large exotic species such as giraffes, zebras, or large antelopes that require specialized airway management.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why are Miller blades preferred over Macintosh for large animals?
A: In horses and cattle, the oral cavity is long and narrow. A straight Miller blade allows the vet to lift the epiglottis directly and provides a straight "line-of-sight" to the vocal cords, which is much more effective in these species than the indirect lift of a curved Macintosh blade.

Q: Can these extra-long blades be sterilized in a standard autoclave?
A: Yes. All our large animal blades are made of 304 stainless steel and are fully autoclavable. However, please ensure your autoclave chamber is long enough to accommodate a 450mm blade without touching the walls, as this can lead to uneven heating or damage to the blade's finish.

Q: Are these blades compatible with my existing small animal handle?
A: If you choose our Green System (Fiber Optic) large animal blades, they will fit any standard ISO 7376 Green System handle. However, because of the weight of a 350mm+ blade, we strongly recommend using our Heavy-Duty Large Handle to ensure better balance and control during the procedure.

Q: Is the light bright enough to see down a 45cm channel?
A: Absolutely. Our Fiber Optic versions utilize high-density glass fibers that minimize light loss, ensuring that the illumination at the tip of a 450mm blade is just as bright as it is on a 100mm blade.
